October Update: Value/Momentum Rebounds as Short-Leg Weakness Fuels Global Gains

Value/Momentum strategies delivered a strong month globally, with the MSCI World long/short decile strategy returning +6.3%, driven by a short-leg collapse. US led (+7.8%) regional outperformance, with Asia ex-Japan (+6.2%) up strongly and UK/EAFE seeing mid-single digit gains. Strategy gains were overwhelmingly short side driven across DM. On a YTD basis, Japan (+24.5%) and EM (+24.4%) lead all regions; the US trails at -3.4%.

CITI'S TAKE

The World Radar Philosophy — The World Radar Screen is an application of our proprietary relative Value and Momentum models. Our approach screens for global stocks by harvesting returns from systematic Value and Momentum investing.

Top Globally Ranked Stocks — Stocks moving into the top decile of the MSCI World screen include Micron Tech., Itochu, Axa, Deutsche Bank and Ciena.

Radar Resilience across Rate Tightening Regimes — Historical rate tightening cycles have not been a systematic headwind for Radar. Across both US and AC World strategies, long/short returns remain broadly in line with unconditional expectations, while the long-only signal consistently delivers positive excess returns. Weaker spread performance has typically been driven by the short book rather than signal failure.

World Radar Screen overview

The World Radar Screen is a quantitative application of behavioral finance which aims to generate alpha from Value and Momentum investing. Our model uses a globally consistent framework to measure relative Value and Momentum for a large number of stocks across global developed and emerging markets. Each month our model produces relative Value and Momentum rankings which are equally weighted to arrive at a global attractiveness score for each stock. Stock ranks can also then be aggregated to assess the relative merits of countries and sectors.

横向滑动查看完整图表

We measure relative Value using one of two metrics. The primary metric is the ratio of the stock’s P/E to its theoretical fair value, which we estimate using a cross-sectional model. If we cannot calculate such a value due to missing data then we use the ratio of the stock’s P/B to its theoretical value instead. Our composite Momentum score consists of three distinct elements: price momentum, abnormal trading volume (stocks which are currently more heavily traded than normal have a more sustainable source of momentum that is still building) and earnings/cashflow revisions (the change in the outlook for earnings and cashflow). Each of these three Momentum measures is equally weighted to determine the composite Momentum score.

We equally weight the Relative Value and Momentum models for each stock to derive a final Radar score. This score is then deciled across the universe. A graphical depiction of the process with the factors used is shown in Figure 3

Value and Momentum Investing

Value investing is one of the most successful quantitative strategies. The philosophy of not over-paying for stocks has been empirically proven to attract good returns in the long term and is a fundamental tenet of investing. However, alpha will not necessarily be generated by holding cheap assets that are cheap for a reason.

Consequently, we look to combine Value with Momentum. The intuition is that investors will rely on Momentum measures to help identify “cheap” stocks where intrinsic value is being, or starting to be, recognised by the market. Momentum strategies work by exploiting the investing phenomenon whereby once a trend is established it is more likely to continue in the same direction. Therefore, by equally weighing the Composite Value and Composite Momentum ranks, the combination rank is used to identify winners, but at the right price.

On average through the cycle, Value and Momentum are two negatively correlated factors. However, the correlation has become significantly negative due to macro influences after the structural break in the post-GFC period. Both factors tend to work at slightly different times, and as such once combined produce consistent superior risk adjusted returns than relying on either factor in isolation.

Overall, our Radar process has had a successful track record globally for many years. Fundamentally, we believe that cheap stocks with good momentum are likely to outperform expensive stocks with poor momentum. Relative Value and Momentum rankings are equally weighted to produce a global attractiveness score for each stock.

Further technical details of the construction of the Relative Value model are available in the appendix to this report

Global Sector and Region Perspectives

The first section of this monthly report looks at the model on an aggregated basis. We take the component scores for all the stocks in a particular sector or region and aggregate them on a market cap-weighted basis. This gives some indication of the sector and regional calls that the model is implicitly making from a bottom-up perspective.

Regional Sections

The remainder of this report is split into 9 regional sections, one each for the World, US, EAFE, UK, Europe ex UK, Japan, Asia ex Japan, Emerging Markets and AC World. The regions are defined according to the MSCI regional classification system. Each regional section includes a page of backtest information. This includes the following:

  • The wealth curve of the top and bottom deciles along with the universe wealth curve. The top decile wealth curve gives some indication of the performance obtainable from using the World Radar Screen in a long-only context.
  • The wealth curve for the spread between the top and bottom deciles. This gives an indication of the performance obtainable from using the World Radar Screen in a long/short context. Also included on this chart are the monthly spreads, plotted as a bar chart.
  • A regional summary table which outlines performance statistics for the backtest period since January 1996.
  • The second page of each regional section highlights some stocks form the current model. The three tables highlight:
  • The top and bottom ranked stocks for each sector
  • Up to 10 stocks which have recently moved into the top decile, ordered by current market capitalisation.
  • Up to 10 stocks which have recently moved into the bottom decile, ordered by current market capitalisation.

Our full model stock rankings for the S&P BMI universe are also available in the form of a customizable spreadsheet that generates several kinds of stock screens based on user defined criteria. The spreadsheet can be downloaded monthly from the Citi Velocity website.

Investment Summary

Our World Radar Screen uses a consistent methodology for stock selection. In this report we include stock recommendations and full backtesting information for nine different regions.

Performance of the Model

Performance of the model has been fairly monotonic over the long run, with the chart below showing that the average performance from investing in the top-decile stocks is greater than any of the other deciles.

Our back testing of the World Radar Screen shows that it has significantly added alpha as a stock selection model over time. The two main component models, Relative Value and Composite Momentum, have both worked well on a standalone basis.

However, given the differing investment factors used to construct each style, they typically exhibit moderately negative correlation over the long term, and thus effectively complement each other with one style delivering superior performance when the other falters.

The table below shows the performance on a long-short basis in USD terms for the regions covered by the World Radar Screen.

Radar in a Rate Tightening Environment

As rates rise, the relative attractiveness of equities shifts, discount rates compress long-duration growth valuations, and the market leadership tends to rotate in ways that can challenge or reinforce stock selection models.

For our Value and Momentum framework, the question is not whether the model works over a full market cycle, but whether it remains a reliable source of alpha during these disruptive periods. In this section we examine the performance of the World Radar Model across every material rate tightening episode since 1996 and assess how the Value and Momentum components have individually responded to rising rate environments.

Defining a Rate Rising Regime

We define a rate tightening regime using a two stage framework that distinguishes between when the market began pricing higher rates (T₀) and when the Federal Reserve formally acted (T₁). For T₀, we require three consecutive months of yield rises of at least 25 basis points from the prior 12-month rolling minimum.

The policy start (T₁) is the date of the first FOMC rate hike or in episodes where no hike occurred, the date of the policy communication that drove the sustained yield move (e.g. 2013 Taper Tantrum). The gap between T₀ and T₁ is termed the anticipatory window. The end date is defined as the month in which the 10-year yield established a confirmed cyclical peak, again applying a three-month reversal confirmation to avoid false signals.

Using this framework consistently across all periods since 1996 produces nine tightening episodes shown in Figure 6, which form the basis of the performance analysis that follows.

横向滑动查看完整图表

Figure 8 presents the annualised Long, Short and Long/Short returns for the MSCI US Value/Momentum strategy across the nine tightening episodes. The long/short spread is wide in dispersion and close to the unconditional average on aggregate. Patterned long/short return columns represent episodes when yields tightened but there was no corresponding hike in fed funds. Two episodes, Dot-Com Reflation and the Post GFC reflation produced negative spreads, both driven by the short leg. In the Dot-Com episode, the short basket returned ~27.7% annualised versus ~14.7% for the long, as speculative technology names surged ahead of the bubble peak.

横向滑动查看完整图表

Figure 9 reframes the picture from a long-only perspective. Risk-adjusted returns for the Long decile are consistently above the unconditional benchmark across most episodes — Sharpe ratios of ~4.5x (Taper Tantrum), ~3.5x (Mid-90s Expansion) and ~2.5x (Post-GFC Reflation) stand out. Even in the two spread-negative episodes, the long decile delivered positive absolute returns of 14.7% (Dot-Com) and 16.8% (COVID). The long-side signal has been resilient across every tightening episode in the sample, indicating a degree of resilience across these environments.

Momentum leads, Value stabilizes

Figure 10 investigates long and short leg returns, by comparing Momentum and Value sub-components independently. Momentum is the more consistent driver of long-side alpha relative to Value across tightening episodes. In growth-supported regimes, Momentum often captures the earnings upgrade cycle in cyclicals, financials and energy as they become the prevailing rate environment's winners. Value's contribution is more volatile. The model's structural negative correlation between Value and Momentum provides a stabilising effect in the most disruptive episodes, e.g. during COVID Active Hiking, both components contributed equally to the long leg (+11% each), containing the damage to the spread rather than to absolute performance.

横向滑动查看完整图表

Figure 11 and Figure 12 address the central question formally, are the returns during tightening episodes statistically distinct from unconditional returns. We apply a t-test on mean returns and a Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test on the full return distribution, assessed at the 10% significance level. The key finding is not merely that returns are statistically similar to unconditional ones, it is that the model has avoided any systematic disadvantage during the very episodes when many equity strategies have historically struggled.

The Dot-Com Reflation (t-test: 0.08; KS: 0.14) and Post-GFC Reflation (t-test: 0.06; KS: 0.20), both cross at a more relaxed 10% threshold, providing for indicative rather than conclusive findings. The median Long/Short spread across all nine US episodes is −0.07% arguably statistically negligible.

For the Long Only strategy, the Post-GFC Reflation approaches significance (t-test: 0.05, spread: +2.6%), and both the Taper Tantrum (+1.9%) and Mid-90s Expansion (+1.2%) show positive spreads. The median Long Only spread is +0.7%, modestly positive but still not significant.

横向滑动查看完整图表
横向滑动查看完整图表

The AC World results yield one statistically significant finding that warrants disclosure. The Fed Normalisation Cycle produces significance on both the t-test (p = 0.00) and KS-test (p = 0.00), with a negative long/short spread of −1.3% versus the unconditional AC World average. This is the sole significant result across both universes on both tests, reflecting the compressed global factor dispersion that characterised the 2015–2018 ZIRP-exit period. The magnitude — 1.3% on an annualised basis — should be contextualised against the full-sample unconditional Long/Short return: a modest headwind rather than a structural breakdown.

Elsewhere in the AC World universe, the evidence continues to point toward resilience. The Mid-90s Expansion reaches significance with a positive spread (t-test: 0.02, spread: +1.3%), and the Dot-Com Reflation achieves significance for the AC World Long Only (t-test: 0.04, spread: +2.6%). The median AC World Long/Short spread is +0.18% and the median Long Only spread is +0.8% consistent with the US finding that the model navigates tightening regimes without systematic disadvantage.

横向滑动查看完整图表

Figure 13 plots the rolling 12-month IR of the strategy with tightening regimes shaded; Figure 12 provides the episode-level summary. The picture across regimes is one of modest, positive but inconsistent signal quality. The unconditional average rolling IR is 0.13. Most tightening episodes sit above this — but by a narrow margin. Only the Taper Tantrum stands out, with an average rolling IR of 0.52 and 63% of months above the 0.5 threshold. All other episode’s cluster between 0.04 (COVID) and 0.39 (2025–26 Re-tightening), with fewer than 20% of months above 0.5 in all but the Taper Tantrum.

The broad takeaway: while the rolling IR is positive in the majority of tightening months, it rarely achieves the sustained elevation that would indicate a structural advantage from the rate environment. Equally findings also suggests that tightening regimes do not systematically impair signal quality. The model maintained a positive rolling IR in most months across all episodes combined, and the unconditional IR baseline is itself preserved.

The key conclusion from this analysis is 1) The Long decile delivered positive excess annualised returns in every episode across nine tightening regimes spanning 30 years. For long only mandates, the model's track record through rising rate environments appears resilient 2) Both negative spread episodes seen historically are explained entirely by indiscriminate rallies in the short basket — speculative technology in 2000, QE-driven in 2011. This is indicative of a market structure risk, rather than the factor model, and can potentially be identified from crowding and momentum concentration indicators. 3) Statistical testing finds no significant underperformance in any MSCI US episode. From the broader AC World strategy, the sole episode (Fed Normalisation) generated a negative spread of −1.3%, statistically significant, but represents a modest if not isolated headwind rather than a structural vulnerability. 4) The IR stability analysis suggests signal consistency during tightening regimes that is still maintained for the most part, above the unconditional baseline.

Appendix – Technical Details

Revisions to the model

In 2015 we revised the World Radar Screen to incorporate new insights from our quantitative research. Both Value and Momentum worked well prior to the GFC. However the financial crisis showed us that our model was susceptible to large drawdowns as a result of macroeconomic influences increasingly driving market returns. Our analysis looks at ways of reducing the volatility embedded in our process to insulate it from similar events to produce superior risk adjusted returns.

One way of mitigating the volatility embedded in Value is to add a Quality factor as an input to the Value model. Quality as a quantitative factor seeks to identify “high quality” companies relative to the market. Whilst definitions of what constitutes Quality vary, typically this relates to a company’s efficiency, leverage, earnings sustainability or ROE.

For further detail on our model revisions, see World Radar Screen – Refining Our Global Search for Alpha, Citi Quantitative Research, March 2015.

World Radar Screen Overview

World Radar Screen uses a globally consistent framework to measure relative value and momentum for a large number of stocks across global developed and emerging markets.

Our World Radar Screen is a combination model which uses two components (Value and Momentum) which are independent of each other to form our stock selection process. By equally weighting the Composite Momentum and Composite Value ranks, we create a combination rank which indicates stocks which can be used to identify winners, but at the right price.

The following table shows each factor and its final weight in the World Radar Screen process.

横向滑动查看完整图表

Quality as a Factor

One way of mitigating the volatility embedded in Value is to add a Quality factor as an explanatory variable in the Value model. Quality as a fundamental factor seeks to identify and select “high quality” attributes and characteristics that make a company attractive. Whilst definitions of what constitutes Quality may vary, typically this relates to a company’s efficiency, leverage, earnings sustainability or return on equity. Adding a Quality factor to our model insulates from selecting cheap stocks that are cheap for a reason and therefore reduces the volatility and downside risk of our process.

The Quality composite that we incorporate into our World Radar Screen as shown in Figure 84, includes factors which are well established within academic literature. The following factors have been selected as we believe they are effective in introducing a high quality tilt to the World Radar Screen.

横向滑动查看完整图表

The general intuition behind including Quality in our process is that it provides a way of identifying companies that generate profit efficiently and have earnings stability. High Quality companies typically have a conservative, yet appropriate, capital and balance sheet structure and a high ROE. Companies, and more broadly portfolios, that exhibit these traits are generally more insulated from the adverse fluctuations of the economic cycle and therefore are less vulnerable during downturns

Value Model

We measure relative value using two value benchmarks. The primary measure is the ratio of the stock P/E to its theoretical value; if the actual or theoretical P/E is not available, we use the ratio of the stock’s P/B to its theoretical P/B.

Relative value model – P/E

Our Relative Value model is estimated by a cross-sectional regression, using expected earnings growth (risk proxy), market capitalization (liquidity proxy), a quality composite and country dummies as inputs.

The functional form of the P/E model is shown below: ln(𝑃𝐸𝑡) = 𝛼𝑡+ [𝛽1 × ln(1 + 𝐺)𝑡] + [𝛽2 × Qual𝑡] + [𝛽3 × MC𝑡] + [𝛽4 × CD𝑡] + 𝜀𝑡

Where each variable is a 1×n matrix of n stocks and:

𝑃𝐸 Fair value PE Qual Quality Composite 𝛼𝑡 Alpha (intercept) Term MC Market Capitalization β Beta coefficient for each factor CD Country Dummy

G Two-year forward growth rate 𝜀𝑡 Residual Term

This model regression estimates an equilibrium P/E relationship across stocks at each month and is combined with the composite momentum score to derive a Radar Rank.

The equation as on 31 July 2026 is as follows: ln(PE) = 3.504 + 2.107 × ln(1+G) + 0.009 × (Qual) + 0.240 × (MC) where ln denotes the natural log;

PE denotes the price-earnings ratio; G is the annualised two-year forward I/B/E/S EPS growth rate; Qual is a quality composite z-score MC is the standardised market capitalisation, capped at 3; and

We also include country dummy variables (i.e. 1 if it belongs to a particular country, 0 otherwise) for countries that have at least 10 stocks. This allows for variations in country relative valuations to be taken into account. These might exist for a variety of reasons such as different accounting standards or different rules for corporate ownership. We believe this is especially important in Europe now where interest rates have been harmonised following the introduction of the Euro. This relationship is fairly stable over time. For some comparison, the average over the previous 6 months has been as follows: ln(PE) = 3.612 + 2.028 × ln(1+G) + 0.009 × (Qual) + 0.244 × (MC)

The model regression has a 12m average adjusted R-squared of 59% currently.

Natural logs are used to account for nonlinear effects: investors do not pay an equal amount for every unit of growth, nor do they expect an equal added discount for each added unit of risk or each incremental percentage point in the interest rate.

Momentum Models

We measure momentum using a combination of one-year price momentum, abnormal trading volume, and earnings momentum, or the change in the earnings outlook. If all three measures are available, we assign a 1/3: 1/3: 1/3 weighting scheme to determine composite momentum

Price Momentum

Our one-year price momentum measure looks at the underlying price trend adjusted for volatility. The specific measure is the t-statistic of a trend line slope fitted to logged stock prices, using 260 days of data. The following chart shows a price history of Apple and a price trend line.

For stocks with a trading history spanning fewer than 260 days, we employ the median price momentum of the universe as a substitute. For a comprehensive look at the performance of various momentum and acceleration measures, please refer to Momentum Matters, 3 December 2001

Abnormal trading volume

Our abnormal trading volume factor compares recent trading volumes (last month) with those over a longer period of time (past three months).

Our work on momentum (see What Works in Equity Markets, 2 February 2006) has shown that the most effective way of adding value to a classic price momentum strategy is to look at abnormal trading volume. This takes the recent trading volume for a given stock and compares it with a more historical number. Our theory is that stocks which are currently more heavily traded than normal have a more sustainable source of momentum behind them that is still building. By using abnormal trading volume, we can also avoid those stocks where large upward price movements are being driven by only thin trading. These are less likely to be sustainable.

For the World Radar Screen, we have chosen to compare the average trading volume for the last month with that for the last three months. We have included this as one of the three equally-weighted components of the momentum composite factor.

Earnings Momentum

To measure earnings revisions or the change in the earnings outlook, we use the revisions ratio, defined as the number of upward revisions over the past month minus the number of downward revisions over the past month divided by the total number of estimates. This provides an indication of analyst sentiment on the stock.

We use the same technique to measure cash flow revisions. We then use an equally-weighted average of earnings revisions and cash flow revisions if both are available and just use one if only one is available.

Our work on analyst estimate revisions (see Searching for Alpha — The Importance of Revenues and Cashflow Estimate Revisions in Stock Selection, March 2004) has shown that cash flow revisions are becoming increasingly important as an addition to the more traditional focus on earnings revisions. We have altered our earnings-revisions factor to include cash flow revisions where they are available. If a stock has analysts covering its cash flow, we include cash flow revisions along with earnings revisions in an equally-weighted combination. Where only earnings revisions are available, we weight these at 100%. This change to the model made only marginal improvements to the performance of the backtest, partly because cash flow revisions have not been available for many companies until relatively recently. We believe that they will be more important going forward.

Guide to Citi Research Fundamental Research Investment Ratings: Citi Research stock recommendations include an investment rating and an optional risk rating to highlight high risk stocks. Risk rating takes into account both price volatility and fundamental criteria. Stocks will either have no risk rating or a High risk rating assigned. Investment Ratings: Citi Research investment ratings are Buy, Neutral and Sell. Our ratings are a function of analyst expectations of expected total return ("ETR") and risk. ETR is the sum of the forecast price appreciation (or depreciation) plus the dividend yield for a stock within the next 12 months. The target price is based on a 12 month time horizon. The Investment rating definitions are: Buy (1) ETR of 15% or more or 25% or more for High risk stocks; and Sell (3) for negative ETR. Any covered stock not assigned a Buy or a Sell is a Neutral (2). For stocks rated Neutral (2), if an analyst believes that there are insufficient valuation drivers and/or investment catalysts to derive a positive or negative investment view, they may elect with the approval of Citi Research management not to assign a target price and, thus, not derive an ETR. Citi Research may suspend its rating and target price and assign “Rating Suspended” status for regulatory and/or internal policy reasons. Citi Research may also suspend its rating and target price and assign "Under Review" status for other exceptional circumstances (e.g. lack of information critical to the analyst's thesis, trading suspension) affecting the company and/or trading in the company's securities. In both such situations, the rating and target price will show as “—“ and “-“ respectively in the rating history price chart. Prior to 11 April 2022 Citi Research assigned “Under Review” status to both situations and prior to 11 Nov 2020 only in exceptional circumstances. As soon as practically possible, the analyst will publish a note re-establishing a rating and investment thesis. Investment ratings are determined by the ranges described above at the time of initiation of coverage, a change in investment and/or risk rating, or a change in target price (subject to limited management discretion). At times, the expected total returns may fall outside of these ranges because of market price movements and/or other short-term volatility or trading patterns. Such interim deviations will be permitted but will become subject to review by Research Management. Your decision to buy or sell a security should be based upon your personal investment objectives and should be made only after evaluating the stock's expected performance and risk.

Catalyst Watch/Short Term Views (“STV”) Ratings Disclosure:

Catalyst Watch and STV Upside/Downside calls: Citi Research may also include a Catalyst Watch or STV Upside or Downside call to indicate the analyst expects the share price to rise (fall) in absolute terms over a specified period of 30 or 90 days in reaction to one or more specific near-term catalysts or events impacting the company or the market. A Catalyst Watch will be published when Analyst confidence is high that an impact to share price will occur; it will be a STV when confidence level is moderate. A Catalyst Watch or STV Upside/Downside call will automatically expire at the end of the specified 30/90 day period. The Catalyst Watch will also be automatically removed if share price performance (calculated at market close) exceeds 15% against the direction of the call (unless over-ridden by the analyst). The analyst may also remove a Catalyst Watch or STV call prior to the end of the specified period in a published research note. A Catalyst Watch/STV Upside or Downside call may be different from and does not affect a stock’s fundamental equity rating, which reflects a longer-term total absolute return expectation. For purposes of FINRA ratings-distribution-disclosure rules, a Catalyst Watch/STV Upside call corresponds to a buy recommendation and a Catalyst Watch/STV Downside call corresponds to a sell recommendation. Any stock not assigned to a Catalyst Watch Upside, Catalyst Watch Downside, STV Upside, or STV Downside call is considered Catalyst Watch/STV No View. For purposes of FINRA ratings distribution-disclosure rules, we correspond Catalyst Watch/STV No View to Hold in our ratings distribution table for our Catalyst Watch/STV Upside/Downside rating system. However, we reiterate that we do not consider No View to be a recommendation. For all Catalyst Watch/STV Upside/Downside calls, risk exists that the catalyst(s) and associated share-price movement will not materialize as expected.

Citi Research broadly and simultaneously disseminates its research content to the Firm’s institutional and retail clients via the Firm’s proprietary electronic distribution platforms (e.g., Citi Velocity and various Global Wealth platforms). As a convenience, certain, but not all, research content may be distributed through third party aggregators. Clients may receive published research reports by email, on a discretionary basis, and only after such research content has been broadly disseminated. Certain research is made available only to institutional investors to satisfy regulatory requirements. The level and types of services provided by Citi Research analysts to clients may vary depending on various factors such as the client’s individual preferences as to the frequency and manner of receiving communications from analysts, the client’s risk profile and investment focus and perspective (e.g. market-wide, sector specific, long term, short-term etc.), the size and scope of the overall client relationship with the Firm and legal and regulatory constraints.

Pursuant to Comissão de Valores Mobiliários Resolução 20 and ASIC Regulatory Guide 264, Citi is required to disclose whether a Citi related company or business has a commercial relationship with the subject company. Considering that Citi operates multiple businesses in more than 100 countries around the world, it is likely that Citi has a commercial relationship with the subject company.

Securities recommended, offered, or sold by the Firm: (i) are not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; (ii) are not deposits or other obligations of any insured depository institution (including Citibank); and (iii) are subject to investment risks, including the possible loss of the principal amount invested. The Product is for informational purposes only and is not intended as an offer or solicitation for the purchase or sale of a security. Any decision to purchase securities mentioned in the Product must take into account existing public information on such security or any registered prospectus. Although information has been obtained from and is based upon sources that the Firm believes to be reliable, we do not guarantee its accuracy and it may be incomplete and condensed. Note, however, that the Firm has taken all reasonable steps to determine the accuracy and completeness of the disclosures made in the Important Disclosures section of the Product. The Firm's research department has received assistance from the subject company(ies) referred to in this Product including, but not limited to, discussions with management of the subject company(ies). Firm policy prohibits research analysts from sending draft research to subject companies. However, it should be presumed that the author of the Product has had discussions with the subject company to ensure factual accuracy prior to publication. Statements and views concerning ESG (environmental, social, governance) factors are typically based upon public statements made by the affected company or other public news, which the author may not have independently verified. ESG factors are one consideration that investors may choose to examine when making investment decisions. All opinions, projections and estimates constitute the judgment of the author as of the date of the Product and these, plus any other information contained in the Product, are subject to change without notice. Prices and availability of financial instruments also are subject to change without notice. Notwithstanding other departments within the Firm advising the companies discussed in this Product, information obtained in such role is not used in the preparation of the Product. Although Citi Research does not set a predetermined frequency for publication, if the Product is a fundamental equity or credit research report, it is the intention of Citi Research to provide research coverage of the covered issuers, including in response to news affecting the issuer. For non-fundamental research reports, Citi Research may not provide regular updates to the views, recommendations and facts included in the reports. Notwithstanding that Citi Research maintains coverage on, makes recommendations concerning or discusses issuers, Citi Research may be periodically restricted from referencing certain issuers due to legal or policy reasons. Where a component of a published trade idea is subject to a restriction, the trade idea will be removed from any list of open trade ideas included in the Product. Upon the lifting of the restriction, the trade idea will either be re-instated in the open trade ideas list if the analyst continues to support it or it will be officially closed. Citi Research may provide different research products and services to different classes of customers (for example, based upon long-term or short-term investment horizons) that may lead to differing conclusions or recommendations that could impact the price of a security contrary to the recommendations in the alternative research product, provided that each is consistent with the rating system for each respective product.

Investing in non-U.S. securities, including ADRs, may entail certain risks. The securities of non-U.S. issuers may not be registered with, nor be subject to the reporting requirements of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. There may be limited information available on foreign securities. Foreign companies are generally not subject to uniform audit and reporting standards, practices and requirements comparable to those in the U.S. Securities of some foreign companies may be less liquid and their prices more volatile than securities of comparable U.S. companies. In addition, exchange rate movements may have an adverse effect on the value of an investment in a foreign stock and its corresponding dividend payment for U.S. investors. Net dividends to ADR investors are estimated, using withholding tax rates conventions, deemed accurate, but investors are urged to consult their tax advisor for exact dividend computations. Investors who have received the Product from the Firm may be prohibited in certain states or other jurisdictions from purchasing securities mentioned in the Product from the Firm.
